study of neptune

  • Neptune is a deep blue-green in colour and was named for this after the Roman god of the sea.
  • Like Uranus, the blue colour comes from the gas methane in its atmosphere.
  • It is the eighth planet from the sun and the fourth largest.
  • Neptune has 8 known moons, 7 small ones and one large one called 'Triton'.
  • Neptune can be seen with binoculars but to see more than a very small disk you need to look at it through a large telescope.
